_ Born in the city of Detroit in the mid 1950's, Doug acquired a love of music at a very early age. For over 25 years, self-employed, as a graphic design artist, he knows, very well, the struggles to make ends meet. Doug's, once secret, overriding passion, has always been, to write and play music, since he was a teenager, and he has ever since.
By Doug's thirteenth birthday, he inherited his first guitar, from his Grandmother. He still has that old ax, but can't pull up any history on it, or the manufacturer, after a valiant research effort, on the internet. It's a Westpoint, beginners, acoustic, 6 string, with "f" holes. Doug estimates that it was made in the 1940's. He was fascinated by it, but got frustrated, shortly after, and set it down for a few years. At the age of 16, the glowing embers of his passion ignited a fire and it's still burning, intensely. It has motivated him in writing well over one hundred compositions, through the years.
Doug wrote his first song "Freedom Road" with in that first year, of musical re-visitation, and still plays it today. You can watch him play it, in a video, on the home page, media player. He continually strives to outdo himself, by creating chord progressions, and fitting melodies, accompanied by thoughtful, catchy lyrics, without trying to copy any one artist, that influences him. If one were to tag his general style it would be difficult. As a singer/songwriter, creating secular and spiritual music, Doug's original sounds cross over into multiple genres, with a particular interest in Blues, Jazz, Folk, Pop, Country, Southern Rock and, last but not least, Contemporary Christian music.
The song crafter got up enough nerve to play in front of his church congregation, in about 2005. Some doors, have been opened, since then, and he has scored some gigs. He struggles with the fear of performing, but much less, due to some supportive people God has placed around him and he's building more confidence.
This musician has been singing, playing guitar and creating songs for over 35 years, now, and has concluded that it's long past the time to share some of them. He recorded his songs on cassette tapes, in his early years and now with recording software on his PC.
Doug's passion is still hot, for musical endeavors, and we are very grateful for you visiting this site and the support he's getting from a growing fan base. If you would like more info and communication you can join Doug on his Facebook, ReverbNation and YouTube, pages. Thank you!
